Contact Your IDTS

When you decide to put your class on a distance platform, you’re never alone. Your Instructional Design Technology Specialist will act as your partner, and execute your vision in a way that works effectively in an online learning environment.

Technology is most effective when it is used to support teaching and learning. While it is most important to design a distance-learning course for instruction and learning, it is technology that will help you accomplish your goals.

Trouble-Shooting

Blackboard’s My UNL Support Center allows you to check the Troubleshooter and Knowledge Base to see if a Blackboard problem has already been addressed. These resources provide extensive explanations of a vast number of commonly, and not so commonly, encountered problems. If you can't find the answer you're looking for there, you can submit a ticket requesting assistance.

The Information Services Help Desk will respond to your hardware and software questions. They will make every effort to resolve your technology related questions. This service is open to both faculty and students.

Have questions on backing up your data or storing your data in a secured server location, please contact UNL’s NSave.

The New Media Center a division of UNL’s Information Services, provides access to a digital authoring lab, an audio suite, and a video editing suite. They have editing experts available to assist faculty and they provide software, equipment, technical assistance, and training classes to faculty and students.

Educational Media  will help you with video production, video conferencing, broadcasting and other services. If you are including a video component in a grant proposal, CIT can help you in estimating the costs.

NET Technology Services  provides links to Neb*Sat system, Nebraska Video Conference network and other K-12 distance learning consortia.

Tutorials

There are a number of tutorials included in Distance Education 101, the Summer Institute for Online Teaching, and the Faculty Showcase. These tutorials address many of the issues of importance to building community, ensuring instructor presence, managing an online class, developing content and activities for online courses, and building assessments.

There are also many other sources for tutorials and training that are offered by UNL’s Information Services.  They provide access to Virtual training company (VTC) tutorials, where you have access to tutorials for such applications as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, and others.

UNL IS also provides access to Blackboard tutorials. Some tutorials include getting started with Blackboard, adding content to your course, using communication tools, building assessments within Blackboard, setting up the Gradebook, as well as using many of the other features found within Blackboard.
