Confucius Institute Classes For Omaha

Register today for non-credit courses in Chinese Language and Culture. All classes are held at UNO's Peter Kiewit Institute with limited seating. Registration fees do include course materials. There will be no classes from March 14-27 due to spring break.

CICL 102 Beginning Chinese II
Jan. 20–Apr. 21 Wed. 6:30–8:00 p.m. Peter Kiewit Institute 261 $150.00/student

Prerequisite: CICL 101 or equivalent
CICI 102 is a sequential class to CICL 101. This course will teach more spoken Chinese and start to introduce Chinese culture to the class. It will help students to lay down a stronger foundation of listening, speaking, reading and basic writing skills in Chinese.  After finishing this course, students will be able to make simple conversations on one's hobbies and daily-life routines, express their needs or give others instructions by using simple sentences, and able to speak Chinese more fluently.

CICL 202 Intermediate Chinese II (FCC Class)
Jan. 23–Apr. 24 Sat. 10:30–12:00p.m. Peter Kiewit Institute 261 $150.00/student

Prerequisite: CICL 102 or equivalent
CICL 202 is a sequential class to CICL 201. Instructors will review previously learned grammars with students. The class is designed to help students sharpening their listening and speaking skills in Chinese, particularly emphasizes on making more accurate pronunciation of words and constructing correct sentences. Students will be able to expand their conversational skills on topics such as making an appointment, talking about their plans and schedules, doing shopping, and expressing their choices and preferences. A short supplementary introduction of Chinese culture will also be included.


Chinese Culture Classes

CICC 101 Chinese Culture I

Prerequisite: CICC 101
CICC 101 offers an exciting glimpse into Chinese culture, history and society. This course does not require any prior knowledge of Chinese and is open for anyone who is interested in expanding their knowledge of Chinese culture, history and heritage. The course offers an introduction of traditional Chinese culture and history, customs and virtues, arts and music, holidays and food, etc. Students are encouraged to do some hands-on activities during classes such as how to write Chinese, make dumplings and sing Chinese folk songs.
